Local Food Manitoulin is more than just a program or initiative. We have several of those, and we think they're vitally important to local food access on Manitoulin, but if that's where we stopped, there wouldn't be much more to say. Truth is, Local Food Manitoulin is about hope. We believe in the healing, life-giving power of locally harvested food, free from the pitfalls of mass production. Our vision is bringing sustainable food from Mother Earth to the tables of families and communities of Manitoulin Island and surrounding area. It's a big goal, but we believe by partnering with food-enthused people and communities, we can make it reality. We're working with 7 First Nation communities and 4 municipalities to promote community-driven initiatives that align with food sovereignty, encourage sustainable diets through knowledge sharing and food access opportunities, and support reconciliation of relationships with Indigenous food systems and practices.
