Welcome to the New Local Food Manitoulin Website

We’ve rebuilt the Local Food Manitoulin website to make it easier to find local food, share knowledge, discover events and help strengthen food sovereignty across Mnidoo Mnis and the Manitoulin District.

We’re very happy to welcome you to the newly rebuilt Local Food Manitoulin website.

This is more than a fresh coat of paint. We wanted to create a website that is genuinely useful to people across Mnidoo Mnis and the Manitoulin District — a place where you can find local food, discover who is growing and producing it, learn from community knowledge, find events and help us keep the information growing.

Finding local food just got easier

One of the biggest additions is our new interactive Local Food Map.

You can browse farms, producers, markets, restaurants, gardens and other local food sources across the Island, search by name or community, and filter the map by the type of food you are looking for — including vegetables and produce, fruit and berries, eggs, beef, pork, poultry, fish, honey and maple syrup, mushrooms, baked goods, preserves and prepared food.

On mobile, tapping a pin brings the location information up in an easy-to-read panel below the map, with details and links where they are available.

And because local food changes all the time, the map is designed to grow with the community. If you know a farm, food stand, producer, restaurant, garden or other local food source that should be included — or notice something that has moved or changed — you can use the Suggest a Location form to send us the details.

More ways to learn and share

We’ve also rebuilt the Resources section as a growing library of local food knowledge. We’ve brought workshop videos from the previous website into the new site, including workshops on oyster mushrooms, seed saving, and herbs and oils.

We want this section to keep expanding. If there is a guide, video, workshop recording, document, recipe or other useful resource that belongs there, you can now suggest it directly from the Resources page.

A place for local food events

The new Events section gives us a better place to share workshops, seasonal activities, community gatherings and other events connected to food, growing, harvesting and learning.

Community members and organizations can also suggest an event for us to review and add. We hope this makes the website a stronger shared calendar for food-related activity happening around Manitoulin.

Good Food Box

The Good Food Box remains Local Food Manitoulin’s current active program, and the new website gives it a clearer home where people can learn about the program and how it helps make fresh, healthy food more accessible in our communities.

Food sovereignty matters

Underlying all of these new tools is something much bigger than a website.

Food sovereignty is an important part of Local Food Manitoulin’s mission. It is about creating space for individuals, families and communities to think about where food comes from, how it is grown or harvested, who has access to it, and how those choices affect our way of life and our wholistic health.

A stronger local food system means stronger relationships between eaters, growers, harvesters, producers and communities. It means keeping more food knowledge close to home. It means supporting the people who grow and produce food here. And it means helping people have more meaningful choices about the food they eat.

We hope this new website can be one small part of that work.

Help us keep it growing

A local food website is only as useful as the information the community shares with it.

If you see something that needs updating, know of a food location we have missed, have a resource worth sharing, or are organizing an event that belongs on the site, please send it our way. The new website has been built to make that easier.

We’re excited about where Local Food Manitoulin goes from here, and we’re very happy to help more people discover, support and participate in local food here on Manitoulin.

Miigwech for being part of it.
